Pickup in Reykjavík
Be at your pickup point in Reykjavík by 08:30; pickup can take up to 30 minutes. Look for an Arctic Adventures minibus or Superjeep. The Golden Circle leg runs in a small bus with a driver-guide, who narrates the drive and gives you free time at each stop.
Þingvellir National Park
Our first stop is Þingvellir, the site of Iceland's first parliament, the Alþingi, founded in 930 AD. It sits in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart, with views over the lake.
Geysir Geothermal Area
At Geysir the ground bubbles and steams with hot springs and mineral pools. Strokkur, the star of the area, erupts every 5–8 minutes. Time here is limited, so if you want food, buy it quickly.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss, the Golden Circle's best-known landmark, is a two-step waterfall on the glacial Hvítá River that plunges into a rugged canyon. Walk to the edge and feel the spray. From here a driver and guide transfer you to the Sleipnir base.
Sleipnir Monster Truck onto Langjökull
From Gullfoss you are taken to the Sleipnir base and ride one of the largest glacier trucks in Iceland along the Kjölur highland road and onto Langjökull. The glacier trip takes 3–4 hours including the transfers, and is fully guided, with information on glaciers and the local area. Crampons are provided. At a scenic spot on the glacier you stop for hot cocoa, Jökla liqueur, tea or coffee and kleinur, an Icelandic pastry, and can join optional sledding and glacier golf, depending on conditions.
Back to Reykjavík
After the glacier you return to Reykjavík. The whole day takes about 11 hours.
Summer: the Red Glacier Expedition
This is our summer version. From 1 November to 15 April the glacier trip is the Ice Cave Expedition, with a walk through the "Neptune" ice cave.

The Trucks
Sleipnir is named after the eight-legged horse of Odin in Norse mythology, which could travel over land, sea and sky. Our trucks have eight wheels, large low-pressure tires and independent wheel suspension for a smooth ride, with airplane-style leather seats with three-point belts, skyline windows, Wi-Fi and a restroom on board.
Good to Know
- Pickup is from the points listed above, and the pickup window can last up to 30 minutes. If your pickup is delayed beyond that, call +354 562 7000.
- Minimum age is 4 years. Booster seats are available if booked in advance.
- Crampons are provided at the glacier stop.
- Sledding and glacier golf are optional and depend on weather and glacier conditions. Tasting glacier water may not be available, depending on conditions.
- In spring, glacier access may be limited by snow.
- The company may cancel or change activities. The glacier truck part can be cancelled after departure from Reykjavík if the weather changes suddenly.
- The Golden Circle part is narrated during the drive and you explore each stop independently. The Sleipnir glacier tour is fully guided from start to finish.
- Rain or shine, the glacier and the Highlands are striking — stay warm and dry in the truck, or step outside and explore.
- Mind the steps when boarding — the truck's entrance is high off the ground, with several steps up.
- You get a full refund if you cancel at least 1 day before the tour; cancellations within 24 hours of departure are not refundable — we recommend travel insurance that covers tour cancellations.
