Golden Circle & Ice Cave Expedition by Monster Truck
Two of Iceland's great day trips in one. Start with the Golden Circle — Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss — then climb aboard Sleipnir, an 8x8 Monster Truck named after Odin's eight-legged horse, and cross the Highlands onto Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier. The finale: a walk through the "Neptune" ice cave, with walls of deep blue ice streaked with black volcanic ash.

Pickup in Reykjavík
Be at your pickup point in Reykjavík by 08:30; pickup can take up to 30 minutes. Look for an Arctic Adventures minibus or Superjeep. The Golden Circle leg runs in a small bus with a driver-guide, who narrates the drive and gives you free time at each stop.
Þingvellir National Park
Our first stop is Þingvellir, the site of Iceland's first parliament, the Alþingi, founded in 930 AD. It sits in a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart, with views over the lake.
Geysir Geothermal Area
At Geysir the ground bubbles and steams with hot springs and mineral pools. Strokkur, the star of the area, erupts every 5–8 minutes. Time here is limited, so if you want food, buy it quickly.
Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss, the Golden Circle's best-known landmark, is a two-step waterfall on the glacial Hvítá River that plunges into a rugged canyon. Walk to the edge and feel the spray. From here a driver and guide transfer you to the Sleipnir base.
Sleipnir Monster Truck onto Langjökull
From Gullfoss you are taken to the Sleipnir base and ride one of the largest glacier trucks in Iceland across the Highlands onto Langjökull. The glacier trip takes 3–4 hours including the transfers. It is fully guided: an experienced guide stays with you throughout, with glacier facts and stories of the Highlands, and crampons are provided. The highlight is the "Neptune" ice cave, known for its deep blue ice, often streaked with black volcanic ash.
Back to Reykjavík
After the glacier you return to Reykjavík. The whole day takes about 11 hours.
Winter: the Ice Cave Expedition
This is our winter version. From 16 April to 31 October the glacier trip is the Red Glacier Expedition, with a pop-up café on the ice, sledding and glacier golf.

The Trucks
Sleipnir is named after the eight-legged horse of Odin in Norse mythology, which could travel over land, sea and sky. Our trucks have eight wheels, large low-pressure tires and independent wheel suspension for a smooth ride, with airplane-style leather seats with three-point belts, skyline windows, Wi-Fi and a restroom on board.
Good to Know
- Pickup is from the points listed above, and the pickup window can last up to 30 minutes. If your pickup is delayed beyond that, call +354 562 7000.
- Minimum age is 4 years. Booster seats are available but must be pre-booked.
- Crampons are provided at the glacier stop.
- The tour involves walking through snow, over uneven ground and up steps inside the ice cave.
- The glacier part may be cancelled the day before because of weather. The Monster Truck experience can also be cancelled after departure from Reykjavík if glacier or weather conditions change suddenly.
- Stops may be shortened, or visited after dark in high winter, depending on weather, road conditions and daylight.
- The Golden Circle part is narrated during the drive and you explore each stop independently. The Sleipnir glacier tour is fully guided from start to finish.
- Mind the steps when boarding — the truck's entrance is high off the ground, with several steps up.
- You get a full refund if you cancel at least 1 day before the tour; cancellations within 24 hours of departure are not refundable — we recommend travel insurance that covers tour cancellations.
